Internal Comms Network - Change of dates: next meeting is Tuesday 28 September

If you've been flicking ahead in your diary, you may have noticed that we'd planned to hold a session next week. However, as many of us have just met the week before last at the (excellent) joint PRINZ/Internal Communications session, we've decided to move the dates for our next two meetings out a few weeks.

So please put these dates in your diary: Tuesday 28 September and Tuesday 16 November. The November session will be the last for the year. (No-one is looking for extra things to do in December!) And take these ones out: Tuesday 14 September, Tuesday 26 October and Tuesday 30 November.

Topic for our next session: Tuesday 28 September - Is your communication hitting the mark?

You know you should be doing it regularly. But, let's face it, measuring whether internal communication in your organisation is up to the mark is one of the hardest parts of your job. So join us for a practical session that will show you:

· wWhat you need to measure;

· sSome simple but effective ways to get the information you need;

· hHow to interpret and use the results.

Sharon Coombes - Director, Write Solutions Limited and Kate Thompson -On Message Business Communications will run this session.

Venue: Committee Room 1, Auckland Regional Council, Crn Hopetoun and Pitt Streets.

Date: Tuesday 28th Sept

Time: 5:30 (networking) 6:00 – 8:00pm

Investment: $5 (if we would like to pay for the year please let us know and we will send an invoice)

Session for next year: crisis communications plans (Canterbury earthquake)

Our thoughts are with everyone in Canterbury as they come to terms with this week's devastating earthquake. The earthquake has seen many of our internal communications colleagues putting their crisis communications plans into action - or wishing they had better plans to deal with the disaster. Early next year we'll be running a discussion session to cover this topic. We'll look at what we learned: what worked, what didn't, and how we can improve for the future.

ICN and PRINZ Combined Northern Event 24 Aug 2010

People - and getting the best out of them

Finding it hard to get through to "don't bore me with the small stuff" Jim in Sales but give "stickler for details" Katie in IT all the information she wants? Or to drag ideas out of Lucy in Accounts but stop Fred in HR from holding the floor?

Then we've got the session for you! Because, when it comes to communications, one size doesn't fit all.

Come along to this joint PRINZ and ICN event and hear international keynote speaker Allie Mooney on her specialist topic: people - and getting the best out of them. Allie will cover the different ways people communicate and offer practical tips to help you make the most of these differences. A non-techie look at Sharepoint for your organisational intranet – what you should know BEFORE you do it and the initial results

Is your organisation looking to implement Microsoft Sharepoint for your intranet? What is the role of internal communications during this period? What happens if you are ‘technologically challenged’? Who should be in charge?

This session looks at the initial implementation of a Sharepoint intranet at the New Zealand Automobile Association. Discussion will include some of the challenges that went with the planning, implementation and follow-up as well as some of the key improvements made so far.
The session will also include a look at managing intranet content and usage as staff adapt to the system in the years following implementation.

“This is definitely not focused on those looking for technical jargon or a discussion on how the technology works (because I can’t help you there) but rather some of the learning curves that a ‘non-techie’ such as myself had to overcome and a few ‘if only I knew then…’ moments.”

Speakers: Kylie Horomia, Internal Communication Consultant, New Zealand Automobile Association and Melanie Pook, Senior Communications Advisor, Chapman Tripp.

Venue: Committee Room 1, Auckland Regional Council, Crn Hopetoun and Pitt Streets.

Date: Tuesday 22nd June

Time: 5:30 (networking) 6:00 – 8:00pm

Investment: $5 (if we would like to pay for the year please let us know and we will send an invoice)

Influencing internally to ensure your comms team is successful

Do you find yourself or your communication team brought into projects too late to make a difference? Are you in an organisation where everyone thinks they can do your job? Tired of being viewed as the odd-jobs team that orders promotional giveaways or prints posters? Then this session is for you!

Having worked both in-house as a communication manager and as an external communication advisor in consultancies, Sue understands how frustrating it can be when the communication function is overlooked or undervalued. However the insights and suggestions are easily transferable to anyone working in communications.
